Upside Down Text Generator

Upside Down does two things to the text you want for a post: it exchanges 48 of the 62 keys, letters and digits, for other characters, and it turns the order of the whole text around.

Type in the box and each row follows your text. Copy puts a row on your clipboard and the button reads Copied. If copying is refused it reads Selected, and the text stays selected to copy by hand.

FOR ALL, UP TACK, DIGIT NINE: what Upside Down characters are called

No font is turned over here. Each changed key gives a different Unicode character that has its own name and code point, and many of the names are not a letter's: a typed A becomes U+2200, FOR ALL, a symbol.

The 48 characters are gathered from twelve blocks:

Last character first

Upside Down reverses your text. The characters come out in reverse order, so the last one you typed stands first.

Forty-eight Upside Down characters and one run of two

The changed keys are 19 capitals, 21 small letters and 8 digits. Their code points are scattered. Taken in key order, no changed capital or digit is followed by the next code point: each is a run of one. Among the small letters only v and w make a run of two, U+028C and U+028D.

b and q, d and p, n and u change places

Six small letters come out as another plain letter of the alphabet: b gives q and q gives b, d gives p and p gives d, n gives u and u gives n. The result is the ordinary character, so a typed b is U+0071, LATIN SMALL LETTER Q. M and W do the same among the capitals, and 6 and 9 among the digits.

Three more small letters are exceptions to the main block of their group, which holds 12 of the 21: e and i get LATIN SMALL LETTER TURNED E and LATIN SMALL LETTER TURNED I, and g gets U+0183, LATIN SMALL LETTER B WITH TOPBAR.

Fourteen keys come back as typed

Upside Down leaves 14 keys as they are.

Twenty punctuation marks change with the letters

Brackets trade sides: a left parenthesis, square bracket or curly bracket becomes the right one and the right one becomes the left, and the less-than and greater-than signs do the same. A comma and an apostrophe become each other. A question mark becomes INVERTED QUESTION MARK, an exclamation mark INVERTED EXCLAMATION MARK and an ampersand TURNED AMPERSAND.
